Moondustwriter's Thursday - Featuring More Fall Poetry Finalists

One Stop Poetry Features Finalists from the Fall Poetry Competition “Through a Child’s Eyes”

Have you ever gone out into a garden in the dead of winter and found an unexpected flower blooming? I feel this way at One Stop Poetry. I am constantly being astounded at the beautiful writing and talent of the poets we have the honor of featuring. Here are two of those talents. Ninot Aziz and Shashidhar Sharma entered the fall poetry competition and were finalists. Their poetry submissions are below.

If you have not already read the winner's poem, we want to remind you to go to Spark Bright Magazine and read our Renee Sigel's poem.

Ninot Aziz was one of One Stop Poetry's fall competition finalists. I'm giving you a tiny peek into her life as a poet because we want to come back and do a feature after her book comes out.

The best acknowledgement ever - That from a friend

RB: What other poets in the poetry blogosphere do you like to read or visit the most?

CB: Well, there are so many poets that I love to read and visit in the blogosphere. It is hard for me to narrow it down, but I will try.

The Chocolate Chip Waffle is one I am drawn to like a magnet to metal. Her writing and poetry is magnificent. I feel like I am at an amazing museum of art and poetry when I stop by. It is truly food for the soul.

Signed...Bkm is another poetry blog I love to visit. Her lovely blog, and amazing writing is full of passion, and truly takes my breath away in awe every time I read her wonderful words.

Poems by Ninot Aziz is full of wonder of legends and passion for life and legacy. I find her writing intriguing and beautiful. I truly feel a kindred spirit in her message, and have found a wonderful and encouraging friend.

Thank you Goddess

Photobucket

A lovely acknowledgement from the Everyday Goddess

The Pink Award nominated by Ilakya 16.7.2010

From Kecek-Kecek

Sir Awang Goneng from Kecek-Kecek remarked recently...

All this talk about kuihs surely has paid off, for not only has it brought so many of you here to share your foodie talks and recipes, but it has also brought from afar Sdri Ninotaziz, a talented writer, blogger, folklorist and a poet too. I have quite forgotten what Badak Berendam looks like, perhaps you have a photo? And thank you for giving that Trengganuspeak-in-verse a home, am so honoured too.

Ninotaziz’s Comment – From Russia With Love by Pakcik at Al-Manar

Our visitor, Ninotaziz left a comment to which Pakcik responded. Typical of her, a talented poet, she sees ordinary words and phrases as having special messages. Following that response she left a second comment.

Here it is:

“ Dear Pakcik,I haven’t heard the phrase Jauhari mengenal manikam for a long long time … it inspired a little pantun here …http://pantundanselkaninotaziz.com/2010/10/jauhari-mengenal-manikam.html “

With Ninotaziz’s permission, here is her short pantun in three languages:

Jauhari mengenal manikam
Bersinar di atas baldu
Kaca memancar lagi manikam
Menyusuk hati palsu

Jauhari tidak tertipu

Welcoming Ramadhan with Pakcik from Al-Manar

Muslims in Malaysia will start fasting tomorrow. Allow Pakcik to take a slightly different route to welcome this very special month with two short poems. One is written by the blogger Ninotaziz www.poemsbyninotaziz.blogspot.com Having read her work, The Hand , Pakcik was inspired to leave a poem in Malay as my comment to her posting. Ninotaziz later had my untitled attempt translated into English for the benefit of her overseas visitors.

The hand - (by Ninotaziz)

They say

The hand that rocks the cradle
Rules the world...

I say

The hand that tills the land
Feeds the world
The hand that guides the chalk
Teaches the young
The hand that shapes the heart
Calms the soul
The hand that carves the art
Broadens the mind
The hand that reaches out
Creates the strongest of bonds

The hand of the scribe
Yours and mine...

Against the above entry in Ninotaziz’s aforesaid blog, www.poemsbyninotaziz.blogspot.com I ended my comment with the following short poem:

Menitisnya airkesawah
Awan hitam
Diperah
Menitisnya air
Kepipi
Jarijari kecil kasihani
Kerdilnya aku
Dikaki Mu

The Goddess Speaks - Hey Ninot

Hey Ninot…
Posted on October 6, 2010 by goddessmoments

Every now and then the totally unexpected just happens. And yet you just knoww that cosmic intersection must’ve been lining up awhile. And this was just meant to be

Like my old old old friend Ninot contacting me after not just mere years of zero speak but ahem! – it had indeed been decades. And I knew absolument nada about her other than at 14 we both wore our hair in bunches and attended gymnastics training at Stadium Negara together. I think there may have been a couple of trips to Penang and I’m guessing we whupped the Island Girl Gymnasts up north – but maybe not

Anyway Ninot it turns out is Pretty. Much. Amazing. She’s written books on Malaysian legend & folklore, writes poetry in Malay, English and French, mothers FIVE girls and … you know how I’ve said that October is the month my Potted Herb Garden comes into being?? Well one of her many many blogs is called Ninot’s Herbs In Pots! So guess who’s supposedly coming to tea next week to actually get down and dirty on my roofdeck??

Though I still don’t know if I want a Cooking Herb Garden or a Spa Herb Garden Ninot ♥
De toute facon, in honour of planetary alignment and a ninotaziz poem entitled Behold The Last Drop I’m posting this pic…

And watch this space for The Potted GoddessGarden For Slurping & Soaking ♥

Interview with Poets United by Robert Lloyd

Have you ever met a person, where after no more than 10 minutes, you have complete adoration and respect for them? I recently did when I took the time to sit down and shape my most recent interview. This week for our The Life of a Poet Interview I was lucky to have a wonderful back forth exchange with Zalina Abdul Aziz, known to us at Poets United as Ninot Aziz.

Palestine holocaust - cara nak dapat perhatian dunia
Orang Yahud ni pandai nak ambil perhatian dunia.
